OUR NEED FOR THE BIBLE
The Bible is our spiritual ________________________nourishmnet _______
& 1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Psalm 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
1 Corinthians 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
Hebrews 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
The Bible is our spiritual ______________weapon________________?
& Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
& Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
The Bible keeps us from _____sin_________.
& Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
The Bible is a ________light___________ to show us the way.
& Psalm 119:105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
CONSIDER
& 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
The Bible is profitable for:
1 Thessalonians 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Psalm 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.
Psalm 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
1 Corinthians 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
& Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;
but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
You may wish to write the following statement in your Bible as a wise reminder from Joshua 1:8:
"THIS BOOK WILL KEEP YOU FROM SIN -
OR SIN WILL KEEP YOU FROM THIS BOOK."
If you read 3 chapters a day and 4 chapters on Sunday, you will read the entire Bible in one year. If you do this you will be in a minority amongst Christians since most have never read all the words of the Bible.
Read through Psalm 119 (24 verses per day). This is called the "Word of God Chapter," and is the longest chapter in the Bible.
MEMORY VERSE
Psalm 119:9-11 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
The Anvil of God’s Word
Last eve I paused before a blacksmith’s door
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime.
And looking in, I saw old hammers on the floor,
Worn by the beating years of time.
“How many anvils have you had,” said I,
“To wear and batter all these hammers so?”
“Just one,” said he, then with a twinkle in his eyes,
“The anvil wears the hammers out you know.”
And so I thought, the anvil of God’s word,
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon.
Yet though the noise of falling blows was heard
The anvil is unharmed—the hammers gone!
